Mrs. Bettie Coakley Dies; Burial in Arlington Cemetery
Mrs. Bettie Snyder Coakley, 72, a school teacher for forty-six years, died at Mary Washington Hospital Sunday, August 2 [1970].
The widow of Richard Powell Coakley, "Miss Bett," as she was fondly known by her students, taught in Stafford, Westmoreland and King George schools until her retirement in 1965. For several years during World War II, she also served as principal of King George High School.
A member of Hanover Baptist Church, where she had served as teacher, clerk, organist for many years, president of the Woman's Missionary Society. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 89.
A daughter of the late Powhatan and Lena Owens Snyder of King George county, she spent her life in Christian concern for others.
She is survived by a sister, Mrs. Mary Bryson of Ashville, N. C.; a brother, Henry Snyder of Callao; and a half-sister, Mrs. Virginia Quesenberry of Shiloh.
A funeral service was held Tuesday, Aug 4, at Hanover Baptist Church with the Rev. Douglas Bowman and the Rev. M. A. Timerlake officiating. Interment was in Arlington National Cemetery.

James D. Owens
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday for James Diggs Owens, 80, of Shiloh, who died Wednesday at Mary Washington Hospital after a lingering illness.
A native and lifelong resident of King George County, he was a member of the King George Ruritan Club, the Shiloh Lodge No. 77, I.O.O.F., and the Shiloh Baptist Church for 67 years.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. M. Vera Owens; four sons, James D. Owens Jr., of Alexandria, J. Stanley Owens, of Colonial Beach, R. Buckner Owens, of Chappaqua, N. Y., and S. Uberta Owens, of Silver Spring, Md.; and one sister, Miss Lucy G. Owens, of King George.
The service at Shiloh Baptist Church will be conducted by the Rev. John B. Hodge, former pastor of the church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The body will remain at the Nash-Slaw Funeral Home at Ninde until 1:30 p.m. Saturday.
